Autograph letter signed : place not specified, to Sarah Stoddart, Thursday [1806 Oct. 23].

Thanking her for a package. Discussing Stoddart's recent marriage proposal from Mr. Dowling, agreeing with objections made by her brother Sir John Stoddart but noting that "upon the whole he does not seem to see it in an unfavorable light." Reporting that Sir John has asked Mary Lamb to assist in drawing up the marriage settlement and discussing it, encouraging her to allow her money to be given to the care of her husband. Mentioning that "if I had been blessed with a good fortune, and that marvellous blessing to boot, a husband, I verily believe I should have crammed it all uncounted into his pocket," but noting that Stoddart has "a cooler head." Stating that Charles has submitted an emended farce (of that mentioned in MA 225.25), and hoping that it will be staged. Mentioning that they have not heard from Coleridge in a fortnight.
